NAISDA has appointed arts leader Tahni Froudist as its next Chief Executive Officer, with her tenure beginning on 30 November 2026.

The appointment comes as the First Nations dance and performing arts training organisation marks 50 years and prepares for a planned leadership transition. Outgoing CEO Kim Walker AM and Chief Operating Officer Debra Schleger will conclude their executive appointments on the same date.

Froudist brings nearly two decades of experience across the Australian performing arts sector, most recently as Deputy CEO and Executive Producer at Flying Fruit Fly Circus. She previously served as General Manager and Co-CEO of HotHouse Theatre in Albury-Wodonga and as Associate Producer at Belvoir St Theatre, alongside work as an independent producer.

Her experience includes supporting First Nations-led projects at Belvoir, British Council/YIRRAMBOI and Flying Fruit Fly Circus, and collaborations with ILBIJERRI Theatre, Moogahlin Performing Arts and Na Djinang Circus. She is also Chair of Arts on Tour and Treasurer of The Cad Factory.

NAISDA Chairperson Mayrah Sonter said the appointment followed an extensive recruitment process.

“Following an extensive and rigorous recruitment process, we are confident Tahni brings the experience and vision to build upon NAISDA’s strong foundations, lead with confidence and commitment, and ensure community and First Nations creativity remain central in NAISDA’s future,” Sonter said.

Froudist said she was delighted to join an organisation with a significant place in Australia’s creative and cultural life.

“I look forward to building on NAISDA’s extraordinary legacy of leadership and working with the Board, team and First Nations communities to champion the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, technicians and creative professionals.”

Founded in 1976, NAISDA is a First Nations-led and governed organisation based on Darkinjung Country at Kariong, NSW. Its accredited training combines Indigenous Knowings with contemporary dance and performing arts education.

The Board acknowledged Walker and Schleger’s dedication and significant contributions during their tenures, as NAISDA prepares for its next chapter.
