Global Creatures has announced that Moulin Rouge! The Musical will return to Sydney in March 2027, opening at the Sydney Lyric with an all-new Australian cast.
The production’s homecoming follows a sold-out national tour that concluded in February 2024, attracting 1.4 million theatregoers across Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. Globally, more than 12 million people have experienced the show, which played in seven productions worldwide in 2025 alone.

Auditions for the 2027 Australian cast will be held in Sydney from 16–21 March 2026, before moving to Melbourne from 23–28 March 2026.
Originally premiering in Boston in 2018 before opening on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in July 2019, the musical made history as the first Australian-produced musical to originate on Broadway. It went on to become a 10-time Tony Award® winner and has since dazzled audiences in London’s West End, Germany, Korea, the Netherlands and on tour across North America.
Based on Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann, the stage adaptation is directed by Alex Timbers, with a book by John Logan, choreography by Sonya Tayeh, and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Justin Levine.
Pre-sale tickets for the Sydney season will be available to waitlist members from 10am AEDT on Monday 23 February 2026, with general public sales opening at 9am AEDT on Thursday 26 February 2026 via Ticketmaster. Ticket prices start from $89, with no additional booking fees.
