Over two weekends in August (17th -26th), Sydney Dance Company (SDC) and the Neilson Foundation will be supporting INDance, an independent dance program held in the Neilson Studio at Sydney Dance Company.

Following a sell-out inaugural season of INDance in 2022, SDC is delighted to invite audiences back to the Neilson Studio at the Wharf for this curated program which will explore diverse and innovative choreographic concepts that push the boundaries of dance and reflect the current Australian contemporary dance landscape. But there are just 79 seats per performance in SDC’s intimate Neilson Studio, so you’ll want to be quick in order to secure tickets!

Four incredible artists have been chosen for the 2023 INDance program – Rachel Arianne Ogle, Kimberley Parkin, Ryuichi Fujimura and Jasmin Sheppard.

INDance will be presented in two parts:

WEEK 1
Thursday 17 – Saturday 19 August
Precipice by Rachel Arianne Ogle – 6.30pm
Cry Baby by Kimberley Parkin – 8.15pm

WEEK 2
Thursday 24 – Saturday 26 August
Here Now by Ryuichi Fujimura (Double Bill) – 6.30pm
The Complication of Lyrebirds by Jasmin Sheppard – 8.15pm

This short season of dance works were chosen through an expression of interest process and reviewed by an external panel of industry advisors led by Rafael Bonachela. Applicants were assessed on their works, their suitability for the program and the performance space, and whether INDance could provide an appropriate platform to showcase their work.

SDC’s Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela said; “I am so excited to be launching the 2023 season of INDance at Sydney Dance Company, generously supported by the Neilson Foundation. It is thrilling to be able to bring four diverse, independent contemporary dance works to Sydney audiences in the Neilson Studio, at Sydney Dance Company’s Wharf Studios. Supporting Australian choreographers and creatives is at the heart of Sydney Dance Company’s mission, and it is amazing to see INDance return for its second season.”
