Judith Anderson, Tanya Pearson and Josephine Spaull have received Medals of Order of Australia (OAM) in yesterday’s Australia Day Honours List.

Judith Anderson was recognised for “service to the Queensland Ballet through administrative roles, and to women”. She was general manager of the QB from 1998-2010.

Sydney teacher Tanya Pearson was recognised “for service to the performing arts, particularly ballet, as a teacher and mentor to young dancers”. Pearson has been director of her school, the, Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy, since 1971, as well as founder and artistic director of the Sydney City Youth Ballet, since 1971.

Josephine Spaull was recognised “for service to the performing arts, particularly dance, as a teacher and administrator. A former soloist with Ballet Rambert, she is a former board member of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, a founding member of Ausdance, WA, and a senior examiner for the Cecchetti Society of Australia. She brought the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing syllabus to WA in 1966 and “personally introduced this program to New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia”.
