Sequins, swans and spectacular circus are set to take centre stage when Circa brings its internationally acclaimed production Duck Pond to the Sunshine Coast for one night only on Friday 6 September at The Events Centre, Caloundra.
A wildly imaginative reworking of Swan Lake, Duck Pond fuses jaw-dropping acrobatics, aerial artistry and cheeky humour in a 75-minute theatrical thrill ride. Eleven powerhouse performers tumble, soar and transform as tradition is swapped for a sequinned duck army, a burlesque swan and a high-flying heart.
Direct from tours across Sweden, Canada, the USA and the UAE, the production follows a hapless Prince, a misunderstood Ugly Duckling and a dazzling Black Swan through a story of identity, love and transformation. The finale is a reminder that true magic lies in being yourself.
Circa Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz, hailed as one of Australia’s most visionary theatre-makers, created Duck Pond with the Circa ensemble. The creative team includes composer and sound designer Jethro Woodward, costume designer Libby McDonnell, and lighting designer Alexander Berlage.
“Messing with Swan Lake is a risky business. You wouldn’t want to do that unless you were a bit of a genius. It so happens Yaron Lifschitz is.” – In Queensland
