The Prix de Lausanne has announced the 81 young dancers selected for its 2027 competition, with a Sydney student the sole Australian in a field spanning 17 countries.
Andy Jiaze Yue, 16, who trains at Tanya Pearson Academy in St Leonards, will compete in the Boys A category for dancers aged 15 and 16. Listed in the official candidate register as Jiaze Yue, he is also the only selected dancer training at an Australian school.
The competition’s 55th edition will take place at Beaulieu Lausanne, Switzerland, from 31 January to 7 February 2027, bringing together 49 girls and 32 boys for a week of classes, coaching and performance.
The selection follows a review of video submissions from 412 applicants — 293 girls and 119 boys — representing 36 countries. A panel of nine dance professionals gathered in Lausanne to assess the submissions, choosing 72 dancers to join nine candidates selected earlier in the year.
Of those nine, four qualified through the Summer Intensive – International Preselection and five through the Latin American Video Preselection. Across all selection rounds, the 2027 Prix de Lausanne attracted 647 registrations. Full selection results.
The candidate list offers a glimpse of the international pathways young dancers are taking. Alongside students training in their home countries are dancers studying abroad, including American candidates at Germany’s John Cranko Schule and Monaco’s Académie de danse Princesse Grace, a Canadian at Germany’s Palucca University of Dance Dresden, and a Japanese candidate training in Singapore.
Yue will prepare for Lausanne at Tanya Pearson Academy, continuing the school’s history of student participation in the competition.
For dancers aged 15 to 18, the Prix provides an opportunity to work with experienced artists and teachers and perform before an international jury. Prize winners receive scholarships to further their training at leading ballet schools and companies, making the competition a potential stepping stone between student training and a professional career.
“Every year, the video selections remind us why we do this work: the passion of these young dancers is an immense source of inspiration,” said Kathryn Bradney, the Prix de Lausanne’s Artistic and Executive Director.
“I am delighted to welcome the candidates selected for the next edition. We will be by their side with enthusiasm, high standards and kindness throughout this wonderful journey.”
Audiences around the world will be able to follow the candidates throughout competition week, with daily classes and coaching sessions streamed online, alongside full broadcasts of the selection rounds and finals. The coverage offers a chance to see how the dancers develop during the week as well as their performances on stage.
The detailed streaming schedule will be published in early 2027. Further information.
