Applications will open on June 1 for the 2026 Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix, Australia’s leading contemporary dance event for dancers aged 11 to 22.
The 2026 BICDPrix will take place from September 28 to October 3, offering young dancers a six-day program of training, coaching, performance and industry connection.
Established in 2018, the BICDPrix has built strong relationships with national and international contemporary dance schools, universities, companies and industry professionals. The event is designed to support young dancers seeking pathways into the contemporary dance sector, with scholarships, mentorship and professional training opportunities offered through its partner network.
Directors Grant Aris and Amelia Waller said they remain committed to honouring the vision of founder Louise Deleur, while continuing to grow the BICDPrix community across Australia and internationally.
“As educators and choreographers within the contemporary dance sector, with experience both nationally and internationally, we understand just how vital it is to support young, aspiring dancers as they navigate today’s highly competitive landscape,” Aris and Waller said.
They said the event had already had a significant impact on its participants.
“It has been incredibly rewarding to see dancers gain confidence, develop their artistry, and go on to pursue flourishing careers, with doors opening both nationally and abroad.”
Across the six days, participants will take part in classical ballet classes, contemporary classes, improvisational sessions, repertoire coaching and networking forums with the artistic faculty and panel.
Intermediate and Senior candidates will also create a short solo during the week under the guidance of a leading professional. Music and details for this component will be provided on the first day of the event, ensuring equal preparation time for all candidates.
Intermediate and Senior candidates will perform their repertoire solo and self-created solo during the semi-finals on Friday. Selected finalists will perform both solos again on Saturday, along with a live improvisational session judged by the panel and viewed by the audience.
Following the Friday semi-finals, the panel and artistic team will compile a list of candidates they wish to interview on Saturday morning. Both finalists and non-finalists may be invited to interview.
The Junior performance and award presentation will also take place during the event.
Applications for the 2026 Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix open June 1.
