World Ballet Day returns on 12 November 2025, bringing together the international dance community for a 24-hour celebration of creativity and accessibility. After a year’s hiatus, the much-loved event once again offers audiences a behind-the-scenes look at leading ballet companies around the world, including The Australian Ballet, The Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada.
This year’s theme, Access Becomes Art, explores how inclusion and accessibility can shape the future of ballet. The Australian Ballet will mark the occasion with a collaboration between its Education and Outreach team and Restless Dance Theatre. Filmed during the recent DanceX season in Melbourne, Restless Artistic Director Michelle Ryan will lead the Move, Imagine, Create workshop with Restless artists, The Australian Ballet Principal Artist Brett Chynoweth, and a group of enthusiastic participants, showcasing an inspiring model of all-abilities creativity in motion.
Audiences can also look forward to a special morning class that unites classical and contemporary techniques, featuring artists from The Australian Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Stephanie Lake Company and Bangarra Dance Theatre. This dynamic session reflects the collaborative spirit that defines Australian dance.
Meanwhile, The Royal Ballet will unveil a groundbreaking new work created with blind artist Devon Healey, featuring choreography by Sir Wayne McGregor, Tiler Peck, Bim Malcomson and Rebecca Myles Stewart, with music by Max Richter. The piece uses Immersive Descriptive Audio to reimagine how audiences experience dance.
