A Week of Dance in the ACT
Ausdance ACT’s plans for Australian Dance Week are well underway, with a wide range of events including performances, workshops and a sector networking morning tea. The full program will be released soon, below are just some of the events that will take place across the ACT from 28 April – 7 May
On Friday 28th April Australian Dance party will perform a new work called Hillscape at Canberra International Music Festival’s Seeds of Life concert. Co-commissioned by Ausdance ACT and the Canberra International Music Festival, Hillscape has been choreographed by Australian dance party’s Ashlee Bye with a new composition by Dan Walker. Performed in the natural landscape of the National Arboretum in Canberra (which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year) Hillscape is sure to highlight the connection between humans and the natural world.
Visiting the ACT all the way from Geneva, Switzerland is Compagnie József Trefeli. Specialising in choreographic research and collaboration between choreographers of different cultures to promote real cultural exchange, their tour has been made possible by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia. There will be a number of opportunities to connect with the company via workshops and performances over Australian Dance week.
On Wednesday 3rd May the Gorman Arts Centre will host a dance studio sector morning tea led by Ausdance ACT director Dr Cathy Adamek. And on Saturday 29th April Canberra Theatre Centre is presenting a double bill of dance works called BATCHELOR + LEA. This program features two works by artists originating from Canberra – James Batchelor and Liz Lea.
