I began dancing at three years old before joining Annette Roselli Dance Academy at 10, where I truly discovered my love for the art form through the support of my teachers and the studio environment. I enjoyed training across every genre, although ballet quickly became my greatest passion. I was drawn to its elegance and the constant motivation to improve. At 14, my parents and I decided it was the right time for me to begin full-time training.
Some of my favourite memories are of morning technique classes with the incredible faculty, including Marie-Claire D’Lyse, Shane Wuerthner and Tracey Carrodus. I loved being challenged to become even one per cent better each day, while also feeling supported when things did not come easily.
Throughout my full-time training, I learnt that progress in this industry takes patience and consistency. You can be given every correction and piece of information, but ultimately, it is up to you to apply them and grow.
I also appreciated how well Annette Roselli Dance Academy supported my academic studies through Cairns School of Distance Education. Having two hours scheduled for schoolwork each day helped me stay organised and on top of my studies while training full time. The flexibility of online learning was particularly helpful when balancing auditions and competitions.
Through this experience, I learnt how important it is to use your time efficiently, so that you can remain focused, stress-free and prepared both inside and outside the studio.
Lillian is currently training in Level 6 at The Australian Ballet School.
