Training: Amanda Bollinger Dance Academy
Present position: Recently graduated from the Académie Princesse Grace; joining Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo for its next season from September
What is your best memory of your full-time dance studies?
I had many amazing memories throughout my time training at Amanda Bollinger Dance Academy, but the memory I will cherish forever is rediscovering my love for dance.
Before joining ABDA, I had completely lost the joy and freedom I once felt. Miss Amanda and the whole team at ABDA helped me reconnect with why I dance: because I truly love it, and because I want the audience watching to feel something through my movement and expression.
Through every class and rehearsal, I learnt that I could truly enjoy dance again.
How did the community within your program shape your experience and growth as a dancer and individual?
The community played a huge role in rebuilding my confidence and belief in myself. Both the teachers and my friends created such a nurturing, positive and open environment, where individuality was valued rather than looked down upon.
I was encouraged to express and utilise my artistry and love for dance in every class and rehearsal, instead of trying to fit into a mould. We were encouraged not only to focus on the technical aspects of dancing, but to truly dance and not be afraid of making mistakes, instead learning from them.
Ultimately, that is what helped me grow beyond what I could have imagined.
