Trained at: Alegria Dance Studios

Presently: Central School of Ballet (London)

How has your understanding of dance as an art form evolved during your full-time studies? Were there any particular moments or experiences that shifted your perspective?

Since moving to London, the way I view and appreciate dance has really changed as a result of having the opportunity to see such a variety of works. Having access to world-class performances, dancers, and choreographers has made me really appreciate dance as a form of storytelling and expression. It has broadened my understanding and deepened my passion for what dance can convey to an audience. At the moment, my second-year class at Central is working with renowned choreographer, Ashley Page, on a piece for our summer showcase. Ashley has an amazing attention to detail, and the knowledge that he shares with us during the rehearsal process is both humbling, and incredibly inspiring.

What is the main lesson that you have learnt?

One of the most important lessons I have learnt during my full-time training, is to welcome and embrace the feeling of being out of my depth. Over time, I have come to realise that the moments when I am feeling the most uncomfortable and challenged, are the times when I have grown the most - both personally, and as a dancer. These experiences have really pushed me, and helped me to improve in ways I did not expect.

Seizing every opportunity that comes your way is also such a crucial part of learning, no matter how daunting it may seem at the time. Putting yourself out there at competitions, and on international stages, can be scary, but this has been a vital part of my development. Seeing the amazing talent and dancers out there can be intimidating at times, but more than anything, it inspires me enormously. Embracing different opportunities has also enabled me to build connections, and learn from others. I have come to see that growth comes from discomfort and that frame of mind has helped me face challenges with greater confidence and resilience.
