Butoh for Connecting Your Body and Soul
In this unique one-day workshop, artist and Butoh dancer Yumi Umiumare will introduce the basic philosophy and physical exercises in Butoh, a Japanese dance form. Participants will explore the intersection of movement and simple ritual, fostering a deeper connection to themselves, others, and the world around them.
No matter if you're a dancer, theatre maker or just someone interested in connecting deeper with their body through movement, this workshop is open to all levels of experience.
Butoh is an avant-garde dance form that emerged in Japan in the late 1950s, characterised by its unique and often surreal movement vocabulary. It defies traditional dance norms, embracing a raw, expressive, and deeply emotional style that often explores themes of darkness, transformation and beauty in distortion.
