Description
Queensland Ballet Academy is the official training school of Queensland Ballet, with a long established history of developing the next generation of professional dancers in a world class setting. Our Academy is a springboard from which students work to develop lifelong creativity, curiosity and technical ballet proficiency. Our faculty is made up of renowned ballet and dance artists, as well as inhouse performance health and student wellbeing experts. This ensures our students are nurtured throughout their journey - creatively, physically and mentally.
The Academy's commitment to the safe and progressive development of our dancers' minds and bodies is central to all that we do.
Main Subjects
All aspects of classical ballet and related disciplines* including:
- Pointe
- Male technique
- Repertoire
- Pas de deux
- Contemporary dance
- Classical character and historical dance
- Male fitness
- Body conditioning
- Yoga
Additional subjects* include:

- Career preparation
- Choreography and improvisation
- Drama and mime
- Musicality studies
- Nutrition
- Performance psychology
- Safe dance practice
*Subjects vary based on level of training.
Practical Classes
Pre-Professional Program: Full-time, industry-aligned, finishing year.
Upper and Lower School: Full-time professional ballet and dance training, alongside academic schooling.
Guest Academy Program: Supplementary sessional training for young dancers living outside Greater Brisbane.
Foundation Program: Preparatory ballet training and complimentary activities.
Contact Hours
Pre-Professional Program: 37+ hours per week
Upper and Lower School: 14 to 23+ hours per week depending on level.
Guest Academy Program: 4x five-day visits per year, during school terms.
Foundation Program: This program is delivered as an after school offering from Monday - Friday. Children are encouraged to attend at least two classes per week.
Pre-Requisites
Entry into all Queensland Ballet Academy programs is by audition or invitation.

Scholarship or Subsidies
Thanks to the generous support of our donors and partners, Queensland Ballet is enabled to distribute financial assistance bursaries via an annual application process. Scholarships and awards may also be offered at the discretion of the Academy Director.
Possible Career Options
Queensland Ballet Academy students receive industry and education qualifications to support continued training, studies, and employment.
Year 12 / Level 1 graduates receive:
- Queensland Ballet Pre-Professional Certificate in Dance
- Queensland Certificate of Education
- Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and / or Vocational Education and Training Accredited certificates (e.g. Diploma in Business)
Pre-Professional Program graduates receive a Queensland Ballet Academy Professional Certificate in Dance and are prepared to be industry-ready for employment with professional dance companies in Australia and overseas.
