Full-Time Ballet Program
Part Full-Time Ballet Program in conjunction with Australian Performing Arts Grammar School
Description
The Full-Time Program at Danceworks Sydney is a goal oriented course, delivered within a nurturing environment, for students who show potential, are hard working and dedicated to pursuing a career in dance. The emphasis is on training young dancers to have secure and safe dance technique as a base, as well as developing each student's artistry, musicality, versatility, resilience and self belief. The goal setting aspect of the course is based on individual progression. Students are taught strategies to achieve their personal best. They are also taught injury prevention in order to sustain a long, healthy career. The number of students accepted onto the program is small in order to ensure each student is given enough attention and guidance. The aim of the program is to prepare students for the challenges of working in a dance company.
Dancers nowadays are required to be strong, versatile and able to work in a team. Students are prepared for RAD exams, Eisteddfods, National and International pre-professional school auditions (predominantly for schools attached to companies) and Company auditions.
Studio Director, Olivia Jenkins, a former professional dancer with English National Ballet, Stadt Ballett Koblenz, Balletto di Teatro Massimo, holds a Distinction from the Professional Dancer's Teaching Diploma from the Royal Academy of Dance, London and a BA Honours in Professional Practice (Ballet) from London University.
