Two young Sydney dancers will perform the roles of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince in the Babies Proms: The Nutcracker at the Sydney Opera House from 30th November to the 22nd December. Aimed at children aged 2 – 5 years, the Babies Proms: The Nutcracker, choreographed by Adrian Burnett, will introduce a young audience to the magic of Tchaikovsky and classical ballet.
Fifteen year old Jade Charlton, who will dance the role of Clara, has had a busy couple of years. She combines full time dance studies at Alegria Dance Studios in Sydney with the Australian Ballet School Interstate Training Program and performed during November with the Australian Ballet in the Sydney season of La Sylphide. In addition to her performances, this year Jade won first place in the Enrico Cecchetti NSW Medals Competition and represented NSW at the National Lucie Saranova Memorial Awards. She also achieved Distinction in her Royal Academy of Dance Advanced 2 examination.
Aurelian Child-de Brocas also studies with Alegria Dance Studios and will perform the role of the Nutcracker Prince. His successes over the past couple of years include winning Gold at the 2012 Genée International Ballet Competition and winning the 2013 National Lucie Saranova Memorial Awards. He was also awarded 1st place in the Australian Institute of Classical Dance competition, receiving the prize of a six week scholarship to the Houston Ballet School’s Summer Intensive. In 2014 Child-de Brocas intends to further his studies in Portugal and has been offered a scholarship to attend Es?ola de Danca do Conservatorio Nacional.
Child de-Brocas and Charlton will be joined by fellow Alegria dancers Max Day (14) and Paul Russell (17) along with Bridget Coulthurst (17) from Academy Ballet and Daniel Russell (21) from Dancin Mates and The Village, to introduce a fresh young generation to the delights of ballet and the magic of The Nutcracker at the Sydney Opera House.
