The wonderfully inventive Pilobolus Dance Theatre is returning to Australia with a show that will appeal to the whole family. Called Shadowland, the show employs the company’s hallmark magical use of light, shadow, puppetry and contemporary dance to produce magical theatrical effects.

Shadowland also incorporates multiple moving screens of different sizes and shapes, merging projected images and front-of-screen choreography.

The story evolves around a young girl’s coming of age. It has been created in collaboration with Steven Banks, the lead writer for the popular animated series Sponge Bob Square Pants and has an original music score by the popular American musician, producer, and film composer David Poe. Shadowland has been on tour since 2009, and is soon to be a feature film.

Pilobolus was founded in 1971 and is named after a fungus. It became a household name when it created and presented six acclaimed performances during the 79th Annual Academy Awards, as well as producing a series of original segments for The Oprah Winfrey Show and LateNight with Conan O'Brien.
