With theatres in WA returning to 100% audience capacity, the West Australian Ballet will return to the Crown Theatre stage in the first time in over a decade with its acclaimed, award-winning masterpiece, Dracula.

Premiering in 2018 to sell-out audiences, Dracula is the creation of Polish choreographer Krzysztof Pastor. The music is an arrangement of the soundtrack of Wojciech Kilar’s famous score from the 1992 feature film starring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, and sets and costumes are by English designers Phil R. Daniels and Charles Cusick Smith complemented by Jon Buswell’s atmospheric lighting design.

Artistic director Aurelien Scannella will return to the stage for the final time to perform the role of Old Dracula (mirroring principal dancer Matthew Lehmanns Young Dracula.

Following the 2018 opening, Scannella’s creative team was awarded ‘Best New Work’, ‘Best Costume Design’ and ‘Best Musical Arrangement’ at the highly competitive Performing Arts WA Awards, as well as scoring multiple Helpmann Award nominations including for ‘Best Ballet’ and ‘Best Female Dancer’ for Carina Roberts in her starring role as Mina.

Dracula opens on 19 August for an limited run. Tickets are already on sale through Ticketmaster.
