Throughout my professional career and training, I was fortunate to have the guidance of exceptional teachers and choreographers. Their support shaped not only my dancing but also my understanding of the artform and the profession as a dancer. Now, as Creative Director and co-owner of Tanya Pearson Academy, the most rewarding part for me is supporting the next generation, helping young dancers grow, achieve their goals and succeed in the world of professional dance.
At Tanya Pearson Academy I work closely with students at vocational and pre professional levels. This stage of training is particularly rewarding because it is where potential starts to develop into true artistry. These are the years when students begin focusing on professional pathways, and guidance at this time can have a lasting impact on both their careers and their confidence.
In my teaching I focus on developing every aspect of a performer: refined technique, strength and precision, alongside musicality, interpretation and expressive artistry. These elements evolve together and help students reach their full potential. Technique provides the foundation, but it is the discovery of their own artistic voice that allows them to stand out as individuals.
At the same time, we aim to prepare students for the realities of a professional career. That means ensuring they are adaptable and versatile to meet the demands of company repertoire, and confident enough to contribute to the choreographic process when working with directors and choreographers. Supporting students to develop these skills gives them a real edge in the industry.
For me the most rewarding part of teaching is witnessing a student’s growth, not only in terms of technical mastery but in the courage to express themselves, contribute creatively and trust their own journey. Each dancer develops at their own pace, and it is incredibly fulfilling to see them evolve into complete performers who are strong, musical, expressive and professionally prepared.
If I could leave my students with one lasting message, it would be to embrace the process of growth. Success in dance comes not only from talent but from dedication, resilience and a willingness to keep learning. The combination of hard work and an open mind will carry them further than they ever imagined.
Looking ahead, Tanya Pearson Academy is preparing for an exciting end to the year with performances of The Nutcracker at the Concourse Theatre on December 20 and 21. This production will feature our students sharing the stage with principal artists, creating a special opportunity to perform alongside some of the most inspiring professionals in the field. Early in the new year, we will host our International Summer Workshops 2026 from January 19 to 23, welcoming dancers from around the world for an intensive week of training. Both events reflect our commitment to providing world-class opportunities that inspire, challenge and prepare our students for the future.
