Congratulations to Dimity Azoury, winner of the 2014 Telstra Ballet Dancer Award.  Dimity will receive a $20 000 cash prize from Telstra.  Born and raised in Queanbeyan, Canberra, 26-year-old Dimity joined The Australian Ballet in 2008 and has performed in New York and Toronto.

The Telstra Ballet Dance Award is designed to encourage the Australian Ballet’s young dancers to reach their full potential and has been running annually since 2003.  This year’s judging panel included David McAllister (Artistic Director, The Australian Ballet), Libby Christie (Executive Director, The Australian Ballet), Carmel Mulhern (Group General Counsel, Telstra), Warwick Bray (Group Managing Director Products, Telstra), Livinia Nixon (TV Presenter, Nine News Melbourne) and Catherine Lambert (Lifestyle and Arts Journalist, Herald Sun).

Congratulations also to Imogen Chapman (Perth, WA) who was voted winner of the $5000 Telstra People’s Choice Award.

The other four nominees this year were Cristiano Martino (Adelaide, SA), Jade Wood (Cairns, QLD), Rina Nemoto (Melbourne, VIC) and Ingrid Gow (Randwick, NSW).

The winners were announced on stage at the Sydney Opera House, following the final rehearsal of The Nutcracker.
