Josephine Wants to Dance

Josephine wants to dance

Josephine Wants to Dance Live theatre for all your swirling twirling pirouetting young dancers!

Friday 27 April 10am & 12 noon

The lights dim, the orchestra begins, the curtains open and a brand new Australian musical specially for children, Josephine Wants to Dance - based on the hugely popular and delightful picture book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley - comes to life on the stage at The Joan April 27 for two shows only.

Create a memorable experience for your children as Josephine will spin, swirl and pirouette her way into young audiences’ hearts as she shares the importance of believing in yourself and realizing your dreams.

In case you haven’t had a chance to read the book… Josephine is a kangaroo who loves to dance. Her little brother Joey tells her kangaroos don’t dance, they hop but Josephine continues to point her toes and leap through the air. When a ballet troupe comes to the sleepy town of Shaggy Gully, Josephine is eager to be involved. As the ballet dancers prepare to perform, Josephine sneaks into town and watches the dancers rehearse for hours and hours and then she practices her spins, swirls, pirouettes and curtsies. She desperately wants to dance in a pink tutu and with silk ballet slippers. On the day the of the first performance the ballet company finds themselves in trouble as the prima ballerina twists her ankle and the understudy gets a splinter in her toe. Josephine’s talents are called upon to help save the day…but can she do it. And more importantly does it matter that she is a kangaroo? Perfect for young audiences from 4 to 9 years and their adults. Please note, our 12pm performance will be Auslan interpreted.
