The search is on across the State for mid-career dance leaders to come forward for a new professional development opportunity being offered by Create NSW in partnership with Sydney Dance Company (SDC).

The Beyond the Studio Fellowship program, valued at $50,000 (including in-kind support), will support a choreographer, dancer, producer, composer or designer with $30,000 from Create NSW as they pursue intense periods of engagement with the SDC artistic team over a 12-18 month period. Applicants for the opportunity must be NSW-based and self-identify as an emerging leader with a minimum of seven years’ industry experience. Create NSW Partnerships and Policy Director Alex Bowen said, “We know there is incredible dance talent across NSW and this partnership is geared at building skillsets and developing future artistic directors who we hope will go on to lead our State’s finest dance achievements. “Working with the likes of Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela plus Rehearsal Associate and acclaimed senior dancer Charmene Yap, our Fellow has a lot to look forward to! This is a fascinating opportunity that will place them into the mindset of a unique and dynamic operation that continues to thrive.” Rafael Bonachela, Artistic Director for Sydney Dance Company said, “Sydney Dance Company is thrilled to partner with Create NSW to provide the invaluable opportunity for future artistic leaders to benefit from the support and resources of Sydney Dance Company in building key skills and development. “We are grateful for the support of Create NSW in helping to create pathways for the next generation of Dance industry talent,” he said.

Applications for the Beyond the Studio Fellowship are now open and close 5pm Monday 16 December 2019.
