The Kim Baker Ballet Academy is recognised as one of the leading ballet training academies in Western Australia and offers the Professional Training Full Time Specialist Course for talented dancers who would like to take their training to the next level and pursue a career in dance, and future leaders who would like to pursue a career in dance teaching. The students attend a well - developed integrated training program including Vaganova based classical ballet. Industry professionals lead the contemporary dance course, and education studies are through SIDE. Our Nationally recognised VET program CUA40120 Certificate IV in Dance is delivered in partnership with Empowerdance RTO code 40397 and for students 17 years and older the CUA40320 Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management delivered by Empowerdance RTO code 40397 through their ELEVATE program is recommended. All students are also given opportunities of studying our already established Certificate Course if requested.

At KBBA we have a strong collaboration with families, academic institutions and health professionals, to provide a holistic approach and support for each individual student. We are passionately committed to strive for excellence, whilst preparing the students for a career in the profession in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Courses

DANCER COURSE - The full-time dancer course is based on the renowned Vaganova classical ballet syllabus and industry professionals lead the contemporary dance classes. It is suitable for the dedicated and talented dancer who would like to pursue a career in classical or contemporary dance. Practical classes are held at our beautiful boutique studio in the hills area of Kalamunda.

Students attend the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) for their schooling from years 7-12, alongside their full-time dance studies. Year 11 and 12 students also have the option of attending the VET course alongside their full-time dance studies, which is a nationally recognised certificate course of study. This includes CUA40120 Certificate IV in Dance, delivered through Kim Baker Ballet Academy and our partners, Empowerdance RTO code 40397.

All students can attend Certificate Courses, CUA10120 Certificate I in Dance, CUA20120 Certificate II in Dance and CUA30120 Certificate III in Dance at the Kim Baker Ballet Academy alongside their schooling and fulltime dance courses delivered in partnership with Empowerdance RTO code 40397.

TEACHER COURSE - The full-time teacher course is suitable for students 17 years and older, and includes full time dance training alongside the certificate course CUA40320 Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management, delivered by our partners Empowerdance RTO code 40397, through their Elevate program. This course is suitable for students wanting a career in Dance Teaching.

Contact hours per day: Senior Dancer - 37.5 hours including school webinars. Days include Monday to Saturday

Teacher - 28 hours including minimum teaching and assist teaching Monday to Friday

Pre-requisites/entry requirements: Students must be of intermediate to advanced levels and be dedicated and driven to strive for excellence. Students must be 12yrs- 18yrs to enter the dancer course and 17yrs and above to enter the teacher course. Younger students can attend the part time Specialist After School Program.

Entry is by audition only.

Main teachers: The teaching faculty includes professional, accredited teachers who have had a career in dance, and/or hold a Diploma or Bachelor of Dance. Teaching Faculty: Floeur Alder, Liam White, Melissa Boniface, Kim Baker, Tahlia Baker, Tristan Nottle.

Audition requirements: Acceptance to the Professional Training Full Time Specialist Course is by Audition only.

Auditions are held at any time throughout the year where applicants are required to participate in a classical ballet class with students of a similar age.

Possible career options: Audition Tours are held each year, where students can audition or attend for experience, and we individually design professional pathways for graduating students. Online auditions are also tailored for the individual.
