Win a double pass to Queensland Ballet's Peter and the Wolf
Win one of four double passes for Wednesday 24 August, 2:30pm performance of Queensland Ballet's Peter and the Wolf
One of the world’s most iconic pieces of music will be brought to life this August, when Queensland Ballet presents Peter and the Wolf at the Thomas Dixon Centre.
Beloved by children for generations, Peter and the Wolf is certain to delight families of all ages. Children, parents, and grandparents will enjoy a lesson in musical appreciation as orchestral instruments accompany the dancers in a reimagined telling of Peter’s trip to the zoo and the rascally wolf, unlucky duck, and graceful bird he meets there.
When Russian-born composer Sergei Prokofiev composed the score and narration of Peter and the Wolf in 1936, it was with the musical education of young listeners in mind. Throughout this imaginative retelling, each musical instrument represents a character: Peter is represented by the string family, the delicate bluebird follows the notes of the flute, while the stealthy wolf is portrayed by the French horns. Loveable Grandpa moves steadily to the sound of the bassoon.
With colourful costumes, loveable creatures, and plenty of charm, Queensland Ballet choreographer Greg Horsman gives this much-loved story a contemporary twist.
Composed as an introduction to the orchestra for children, the lively production fits perfectly with Queensland Ballet’s ‘My First Ballet series’, inspiring the littlest of ballet lovers.
