World Ballet Pianists Day returns for its second edition on 9 October 2025, shining a light on an essential yet often overlooked part of the dance world: the ballet pianist.
Established in 2024 by Massimiliano Greco, Principal Pianist and Head of Music at the Académie Princesse Grace – Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the initiative celebrates the artistry of those who give dancers their daily soundscape in studios and on stage. The chosen date honours Alexander Siloti, renowned for his high-level transcriptions of great ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty and Raymonda.
This year, pianists, choreographers, teachers and dancers are invited to contribute through performances, rehearsal recordings, reflections and written pieces, which will feature on the event’s official YouTube channel and blog. In addition, a global census and digital archive of ballet pianists and original class compositions is being developed to preserve this unique musical heritage.
As Greco notes, the day provides a collective voice for a profession that too often remains invisible despite being indispensable to the life of dance.
