On Tuesday 4 October, ballet lovers will be able to enjoy 20 hours of non-stop exclusive backstage footage from five of the world’s leading ballet companies… the Australian Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet, the Royal Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada and the San Francisco Ballet.

It’s the third year in a row that the five companies have collaborated to broadcast this event, but the first time that the even will be showing via Facebook Live, and the longest broadcast ever to be shown on the platform.

World Ballet Day Live gives viewers a chance to see behind the scenes of some of the world’s major ballet companies, taking audiences to morning class, rehearsals for upcoming productions and backstage preparations.

This year World Ballet Day Live will also include pre-recorded footage from companies around the world. Confirmed companies are Hong Kong Ballet, Queensland Ballet, West Australian Ballet, English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Houston Ballet, Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Ballets du Monte Carlo and Dutch National Ballet.

Viewers are encouraged to get involved using the hashtag #WorldBalletDay and #mydanceshoes submitting pictures and videos of their own dancing shoes.

The full schedule for the day will be released nearer the time.
