Presented as part of the Melbourne Festival, An Act of Now is Anouk van Dijk’s debut work as Artistic Director of Chunky Move. A change of directorship is inevitably the beginning of a new chapter for a dance company. This is particularly so for Chunky Move, however, as the company of 17 years had only operated under its founding AD Gideon Obarzanek until van Dijk’s appointment in July 2012.
Thus An Act of Now marks the beginning of a new era for the company. Presented at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, An Act of Now explores proximity, isolation and humankind’s ability to coexist from the confines of a smoke filled glasshouse.
