A new dance documentary, called First Position, about last year’s Youth America Grand Prix, is to receive its Australian premiere at the Sydney Film Festival and Dance Australia has two double passes to give away!
The film features six young aspirants - Jules Jarvis Fogarty (10), Aran Bell (11), Gaya Bommer, (11), Miko Fogarty (11), Michaela Deprince (14), Joan Sebastian Zamora (16) and Rebecca Houseknecht (17). They are followed for a year as they work toward the competition final. The film includes stunning footage in class and on stage.
The film will screen at 10 am on Sat 9 June Event Cinemas George Street 4 and on 11.45 am on Sun 17 June at Event Cinemas George Street 9.

First Position is one of five films about dance scheduled for the film festival. The others are The Perfect Fit, which shows the world of professional ballet through the eyes of a shoemaker; Dance Me to the End of Love (by Martha Goddard and Oliver Torr), an Australian film about a dancer couple “journeying towards the end of love”; Ballroom Dancer, about a competitive ballroom champion couple, and Crazy Horse, about the Paris nightclub made famous by its nude dance show.
