Watch: SDC joins with Sydney Symphony

Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Dance Company have come together to create a unique online series featuring four of Australia’s celebrated musicians and four of Australia’s leading dancers.

The series is called Cuatro and is produced and directed by Pedro Greig and choreographed by SDC artistic director, Rafael Bonachela. Each episode is individually conceived and responds to the impact of isolation and distancing.

The dancers and musicians began the collaborative process online and worked together over a number of weeks, with each element finally recorded in isolation at the SDC studios in Ultimo.

“I am absolutely delighted that . . . we have been able to create such a beautiful series of films during this time of lockdown and restrictions,” says Bonachela. “It has been very challenging and frustrating for all performing artists to not be able to perform; this has been an uplifting and joyful experience.”

An episode will be released every Friday in June at 9am on both companies’ social platforms and websites. The first in the series brings together Diana Doherty, SSO’s Principal Oboe, with Charmene Yap and was released on Friday 5. Next in the line-up is:

Cuatro 2

Andrew Haveron, Concertmaster, with Davide Di Giovanni
Available online: Friday 12 June

Cuatro 3

Umberto Clerici, Principal Cello, with Juliette Barton
Available online: Friday 19 June

Cuatro 4

Emma Sholl, Associate Principal Flute, with Chloe Leong
