If you would like to see some of the most innovative international dance on film, especially European dance, you have a treat in store. The Cinedans Fest 22, which is taking place in Amsterdam in Holland, will also be available to view on line from the comfort of your loungeroom.

Cinedans is an organisation devoted to the presentation, development and international distribution of dance films. The organisation consists out of four pillars: Cinedans FEST, Cinedans LAB, Cinedans TOUR and Cinedans WEB. Cinedans FEST annually presents an exclusive dance film program in Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam, showing all the latest cinematographic developments in the genre.

This year’s festival runs for five days and will present a wide-ranging program that includes some of the best known names in dance. It includes POLITICAL MOTHER: The Final Cut (direction and choreography Hofesh Shechter), Stranger Than Paradise by the Austrian Liquid Loft (direction and choreography Chris Haring) and Swan Lakes (direction Gauthier Dance/ Eric Gauthier with choreographies by Cayetano Soto, Hofesh Shechter and Marco Goecke).

There is a selection of Dutch shorts, and a number of documentaries providing insights into the working methods of choreographers and dancers, or highlighting a special project or dance movement. The program includes the highly topical Why we Fight by director Mirjam Devriendt and choreographer Alain Platel, with the collaboration of visual artist Berlinde De Bruyckere. Another is Ailey, by director Jamila Wignot about the founder of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, a haven for black artists in the US. And A Delicate Balance, by director Christine Chevarie-Lessard, is about the dreams and expectations of four adolescent dancers at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec.

There is also a special focus on Taiwan.

A highlight is a new documentary, Hans van Manen - Just dance the steps, by director Willem Aerts. This grand master of Dutch dance turns 90 in July.

The complete program for Cinedans FEST'22 will be announced mid May. With a single pass you will be able to access the Cinedans Online Platform and watch as many films as you like.
