Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) students are preparing for their last performance for 2013. Entitled “Shine”, the program will feature an eclectic mix of ballet and contemporary works, including the Australian premiere of slight by the late Tanja Liedtke, Fugue by Raewyn Hill, Poem for an Ailing World by Michael Whaites and Fokine’s Les Sylphide, remounted by Kim McCarthy.
Featuring second and third year dance students, “Shine” will be the final performance at WAAPA for those graduating. This makes the end-of-year performance particularly special, according to Head of Dance at WAAPA, Nanette Hassall. “To watch the development of the WAAPA dance students through three years of intensive training and to see them blossom in their final year is a real privilege,” she remarks.
