WAAPA musical theatre audition masterclasses

Auditions can be daunting which is why the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) has designed its Music Theatre Audition Masterclass.   Conducted by WAAPA’s Head of Music Theatre David King and Co-ordinator of the Acting Program Crispin Talyor, the masterclass will give participants techniques to deal with the most challenging musical audition.  The session is three hours long and includes mock auditions for singing, acting and dance and prepares auditionees for all challenges from cattle-call to callback.  It is suitable for professional and amateur performers, teachers and prospective WAAPA students.
The masterclass includes:

  • Personal presentation
  • Professional audition procedure
  • Audition etiquette
  • Dealing with nerves
  • Accompanist briefing
  • Taking direction
  • Effective communication
  • Questions and answers

WAAPA Music Theatre Mid-Year Workshop

This one-week workshop is aimed at teenagers.  Taught by WAAPA’s music theatre staff the course develops students’ skills in ensemble singing, song and dance, jazz, acting and improvisation.  The workshop culminates with a performance for family and friends.

Minimum age:  14 years
