The Queensland Ballet’s new production of King Arthur and Tales of Camelot opens in just over a week’s time. Choreographer François Klaus, who is also the company’s artistic director, is putting the final touches on his new full-length ballet.

Klaus has gone back to the original literature (beyond that penned by Thomas Malory in the 15th century) for his scenario, which chronicles the life of this legendary King. He has also drawn on the talents of music director Craig Young, resident costume designer Noelene Hill, lighting designer David Williams and set designer Bruce McKinven. The ballet will also employ the judicious use of spoken word, written by Helen Howard and Michael Futcher, and delivered by dancer Dan Crestani in guise of the charismatic central figure of Merlin.

‘King Arthur and the Tales of Camelot’ runs from October 15-29 at the Playhouse, Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

For a full account of the creation of the ballet, see the October/November issue of ‘Dance Australia’.
