Rehearsals are officially underway for the Australian return of SIX the Musical, with a new cast of queens preparing to open at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre on 24 July before seasons in Sydney and Brisbane.
The international musical phenomenon reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as pop icons, remixing 500 years of history into an 80-minute concert-style production. The Australian season will feature Sarah Murr as Catherine of Aragon, Mia Paris Scalise as Anne Boleyn, Cara Bessey as Jane Seymour, Kadesa Honeyhill as Anna of Cleves, Angela Brischetto as Katherine Howard and Lorinda May Merrypor as Catherine Parr.
Joining them are swings Lauren Goetz and Geena Hutton, alongside returning cast member and Dance Captain/Swing Thalia Smith, and Associate Choreographer, Assistant to the Director and Alternate Swing Cristina D’Agostino.
Australian Associate Director Sharon Millerchip, who again leads the company, said the chemistry between the performers was evident from the beginning of rehearsals.
“Watching this extraordinary company come together in the rehearsal room has been a joy. Their chemistry was instant; we knew right away we had something special,” Millerchip said.
“Each performer brings something uniquely brilliant to SIX: incredible talent, fierce individuality, and a genuine commitment to honouring these Queens with heart, humour, and undeniable power.”
Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX gives Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr the chance to step out of the shadow of their infamous husband and reclaim their stories on their own terms.
Since debuting at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, the musical has grown into a global hit, reaching the West End and Broadway and spawning productions across Australia, Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. It has won 38 international awards, including two Tony Awards, while its platinum-certified soundtrack has accumulated more than 5.5 billion listens.
Dance is integral to the production’s pop-concert energy, with choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. The original creative team also includes directors Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage, set designer Emma Bailey, costume designer Gabriella Slade, lighting designer Tim Deiling and sound designer Paul Gatehouse.
SIX the Musical opens at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre on 24 July 2026, before transferring to Theatre Royal Sydney from 9 October and QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre in Brisbane from 2 January 2027.
