The Australian Ballet’s annual "Telstra Ballet in the Bowl" is particularly special this year because 2014 marks the 30 year anniversary of the partnership between Telstra and the Australian Ballet. The event will incorporate the announcement of the nominees for the 2014 Telstra Ballet Dancer Award. A free event, "Telstra Ballet in the Bowl" takes place at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, Friday 7 March.
The performance is a mixed bill, including excerpts from The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and the company’s recent production of Cinderella. Orchestra Victoria will accompany the dancers.
The Australian Ballet’s Artistic Director David McAllister is looking forward to the event. “There’s no greater feeling for a dancer than performing under a starlit sky to a capacity crowd of families, friends and fans who have gathered together to witness world-class ballet in a magical setting,” he remarks. “This year’s event is extra special as we celebrate one of the longest running arts sponsorships in Australia and the anniversary of our very first free performance in 1974!”
