Tasdance, Tasmania’s state contemporary company, is undertaking a two month tour in May and June that will take in centres in NSW and Victoria.
The company is bringing “Identity”, a double bill which teases out the questions evoked by this much discussed concept. The two very different approaches are provided by Frances Rings, who has created Remembered with Us, and Anton, whose work is named The Blur. Frances Rings is the choreographer-in-residence at Bangarra Dance Theatre, and is building a reputation as a choreographer of note. Anton is also a choreographer to watch, and has worked extensively in both the contemporary and commercial realms. His most recent major work was Supermodern Dance of Distraction, which premiered in Sydney in March.
The dancers for the Tasdance tour are Sarah Fiddaman, Malcolm McMillan, Jenni Large, Bernadette Lewis, Brianna Kell and Anton himself.
Its first stop on the mainland is on May 19 at Burrinja, in Upwey near Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges, in a venue dedicated to the late Aboriginal artist, Linus Otis. The company then moves on to:
Kyneton Town Hall (Vic) on May 25,
Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (NSW) on May 29,
Hamilton Performing Arts Centre (Vic) on June 1,
Portland Civic Hall (Vic) on June 6,
Warrnambool Lighthouse Theatre (Vic) on June 9,
Gasworks Theatre (Melbourne) from June 14-16,
Wellington Entertainment Centre, Sale, Vic, on June 20
The Capital, Bendigo (Vic) on June 22 and 23.
