Tasdance has announced that Felicity Bott has been appointed artistic director of Tasdance. Bott will commence in the role from October, taking over from Annie Greig who has held the position for 18 years.
Bott comes to Tasdance from Ausdance WA, where she has been director. Prior to that, she was artistic director of Buzz Dance Theatre from 2003-2009. “I am passionate about exploring the full scope of dance as a potent cultural force - in both professional and community settings,” remarks Bott. “I am very driven to understand what triggers adults, young people, children and families to be a part of engaging with art and dance. I know how meaningful it has been in my life.”
Bott is excited to head up Tasdance. “From a national perspective, Tasdance punches well above its weight,” she observes. “Annie Grieg’s legacy is an absolute gift to an incoming director. I can’t wait to start! Professionally, I have dedicated nearly 30 years to flinging my body and imagination around in many performing arts contexts. I greatly value the opportunity to bring this experience to Tasdance. I see the company as having many facets historically: Tasdance the incubator of great dance; Tasdance the community hub; Tasdance igniter of aspiration via education; and finally, Tasdance the 30-year old ‘institution’ that has initiated ideas about the body-in-contemporary-culture across many years with many leading professional contemporary dance artists.”
