Sydney Dance Company will kick off its 2015 season with a rare treat for its audiences – William Forsythe’s 1993 work Quintett.  A work for five dancers, Quintett reveals a side of Forsythe that audiences don’t often experience.  Delicate, tender, unsparing in its intensity, it’s recognised as his a poignant and exhilarating work.  Quintett was created in collaboration with Ballet Franfurt dancers and original cast members Dana Caspersen, Stephen Galloway, Jacopo Godani, Thomas McManus and Jone San Martin.

Quintett is hardly ever performed without Forysthe’s direct supervision and so SDC is delighted to have been invited to present the work in 2015.

Quintett will be performed alongside a new work by Rafael Bonachela, set to the music composed by American compioser and guitarist, Bryce Dressner, known best for his work with The National.  The double bill will be entitled “Frame of Mind” and will be presented in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, during March, April and May.

SDC’s second season for 2015 is entitled “Triptych”.  This will include a reprisal of Bonachela’s Les Illuminations, which will see singer Katie Noonan, fashion designer Toni Maticevski and set/lighting designer Benjamin Cisterne collaborate once more with Bonachela.  Les Illuminations is a two-part tribute to composer Benjamin Britten.  A new work from Bonchela, also featuring costumes by Maticevski and design by Cisterne will complete the trio.

November will see SDC work with Carriageworks to present the second version of “New Breed”, a program which gives four emerging choreographers a chance to create work on company dancers.

In 2015 SDC will take triple bill “De Novo” on a seven-week regional tour to the Northern Territory, Tasmania, regional Victoria, Adelaide and regional South Australia.  “De Novo” includes Bonachela’s Emergence, Alexander Ekman’s Cacti and Larissa McGowan’s Fanatic.

SDC will also, once again, collaborate with Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2015 for their presentation of Piazolla’s Le Grand Tango at Sydney Opera House, in April.

Apparently there is more to be announced, so stay tuned!
