December/January may traditionally be a quiet time but that’s not the case at Lucy Guerin Inc. The company is busy supporting independent choreographers and young dancers/students with a season of work by independent artists entitled “Pieces for Small Spaces”, as well as invitations to apply for 2013 residencies and 2013 secondments.
“Pieces for Small Spaces”
From December 12-15, the company will present “Pieces for Small Spaces”. This season is Lucy Guerin Inc’s annual program to support the work of young choreographers and those working outside company structures. It is a performance evening curated and presented by Lucy Guerin Inc where five choreographers are invited to make a 10 minute dance work with the aim of developing choreographic process and finding a distinct voice for their ideas. This year, Lucy Guerin Inc welcome acclaimed choreographer and dancer, and Australia Council Creative Australia Fellow Antony Hamilton as guest Curator for the season.

2013 Residency applications open
Each year there is an opportunity for choreographers to use space at the Lucy Guerin Inc Studio, free of charge, to work on a new contemporary dance project. Hours for rehearsal will be organised in consultation with the company around its scheduled working periods. There will be no presentation outcome to this initiative but artists are encouraged to have a showing of the work they develop at the studio and invite feedback from peers and audience. There is no cash component to this residency.
In 2013 opportunities for Residencies will be available from May 1.
