SDC's doing financially fine

Sydney Dance Company has announced it had a financially successful year in 2011, with an annual operating surplus of more than $500,000, and a 47 per cent increase in paid audiences.

This came in combination with "hugely successful domestic and international tours and growth in sponsorship and philanthropy income despite an industry-wide decrease in this area".

This is good news considering the circumstances the company found itself in not that long ago, in 2008, following the untimely death of its artistic director-designate, Tanja Liedtke.

Rafael Bonachela, who was appointed artistic director in 2009, had his contract extended in 2011.
