Sydney Dance Company is making a triumphant return to the global stage this year, with a big international tour taking in six cities.

The tour begins in Barcelona, in Spain, the hometown of Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela. It then moves on to London, Belgrade, New York City, Washington and Portland, Oregon, in the United States.

The tour includes first time appearances at the Royal Opera House in London and at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC. Depending on where it performs, the company will present either Bonachela's Impermanence or ab [intra] or the triple bill "Ascent", which comprises Marina Mascarell’s The Shell, A Ghost, The Host & The Lyrebird, Bonachela’s I Am-ness and Antony Hamilton's Helpmann Award-winning work Forever & Ever

Marking a significant moment in SDC’s 55-year history, the 2024 International Tour features debuts at London's Royal Opera House and the Kennedy Center in Washington.

First stop is Barcelona’s home of dance, Mercat de les Flors, where the company is appearing as part of Dansa Metropolitana, a dance festival taking over the Barcelona metropolitan area.

While in London, the company will take part in an official function at Australia House on 21 March. With 250 guests in attendance, the event will include a duet performance by SDC, followed by a panel discussion with Sir Lloyd Dorfman, Chair of the Royal Opera House, Dr Paul Thompson, Chair of the British Council, Dame Darcey Bussell, former ballerina and SDC International Patron, and Rafael Bonachela.

From there the company will travel to the Belgrade Dance Festival, Serbia, and White Bird, Portland, where it will perform works alongside acclaimed companies including GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

While in the US, the company will tour to the east coast, performing at The Joyce Theater in New York before debuting at Washington’s illustrious Kennedy Center with Impermanence. At the Kennedy Center, the company will be joined live onstage by the Australian String Quartet playing Bryce Dessner’s award-wining score.

The prestigious American Australian Association will celebrate SDC’s return to New York with an intimate reception in its new headquarters overlooking the New York skyline.

Sydney Dance Company's International Tour will run from March 14 to April 27.
