Sydney Dance Company (SDC) invites applications from talented Australian and New Zealand dancers wishing to take part in its pre-professional year program in 2015.

The relatively new, nationally accredited course is currently in its first year of operation and is designed to be a springboard for aspiring professional dancers.  Participants in the one-year program train full-time alongside Australia’s leading contemporary dance company, and to interact with nationally and internationally renowned choreographers.

Held at SDC’s studios, overlooking Sydney Harbour at Walsh Bay in Sydney, the pre-professional year provides dancers the opportunity to develop their technique, artistry and performance skills.  The program covers contemporary dance and ballet technique, improvisation and composition, partnering, repertoire classes and workshops, audition techniques, yoga, Pilates, nutrition, injury prevention, choreographic development and performance opportunities.

In 2014 students have enjoyed the opportunity to learn from industry professionals including Sydney Dance Company artistic director Rafael Bonachela, course director Linda Gamblin, dance director Amy Hollingsworth and the Sydney Dance Company dancers, in addition to leading Sydney-based independent dance artists and choreographers such as Craig Bary, Kristina Chan, Elizabeth Ryan and Dean Walsh.

The students are presently working with choreographer Lucas Jervies on the creation of a new work, to be performed in October at the Sydney Theatre as part of their end of year graduation.

The course is open to Australian and New Zealand dancers aged 18 or older, and those who are turning 18 in 2015.

Entry to the course is by application followed by an invitation-only audition to be held on 14 September 2014.
