Ballet lovers across Australia will have the rare chance to experience the Royal Ballet on the big screen, as the Royal Ballet and Opera’s 2025/26 Cinema Season is set to be broadcast in over 1,500 cinemas worldwide, including the 19 Palace Cinemas across Australia.

The upcoming season features a sumptuous line-up of audience favourites and critical triumphs, beginning with the sunshine-filled La Fille mal gardée (5 November 2025). This family-friendly Ashton classic blends humour, romance and pastoral charm with sparkling choreography, offering the perfect entrée to the season.

Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella (25 November 2025) follows, inviting audiences into a magical world where fairy godmothers and ballroom waltzes meet lyrical grace. Just weeks later, The Nutcracker (10 December 2025) returns for its annual festive outing, with Peter Wright’s beloved 1984 production bringing Tchaikovsky’s score and Julia Trevelyan Oman’s designs to life in rich, nostalgic detail.

Contemporary ballet also features prominently. Wayne McGregor’s Woolf Works (9 February 2026), inspired by the writings of Virginia Woolf and set to music by Max Richter, promises a bold, immersive theatrical experience. In March, Giselle (3 March 2026) provides a haunting counterpoint — a Romantic-era tale of love and betrayal performed in Peter Wright’s evocative staging.

From timeless fairy tales to groundbreaking new narratives, the season offers something for all dancegoers — whether seasoned balletomanes or newcomers seeking a memorable introduction.

Opera fans will also be pleased, with screenings of Tosca, La traviata, Siegfried and The Magic Flute rounding out the nine-title program.

Screenings will be held at Palace Cinemas across the country. Tickets are now on sale. For full listings and session times, visit: palaceoperaandballet.com.au
