A conceptual hard rock dance opera based on an avant-garde imagining of the greatest love story ever told is about to open in Melbourne. Called Mátalor, and featuring electrifying choreography performed to exhilarating live music, the work is based on Shakespeare’s eternal tale, Romeo and Juliet. You think you know the story? You don’t.

Matalor is choreographed by Stephan Agisilaou (Creative Director of Vertical Shadows, choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance) and Adam Blakey, a multi-award winning Australian Dancesport champion.

Mátalor combines contemporary, jazz, Latin and ballroom dance to dynamic effect.

From the athleticism of an opening number that sees tribes go to war in a rigorous street fight to the dreamlike masquerade ball, Mátalor is a provocative choreographic exploration of passion, allegiance, freedom and love.
