Australia’s Robert Curran has been appointed artistic director of Louisville Ballet, in Louisville, Kentucky. Founded in 1952, Louisville is Kentucky’s flagship ballet company and consists of 23 dancers and 16 trainees.
Curran is best known as a dancer with the Australian Ballet, where he spent 16 years, 10 of these as a principal artist. He also co-founded project-based dance company Jack Productions and has worked as a rehearsal director for Bangarra Dance Theatre.
Curran is looking forward to his new role. “I’m thrilled to be part of the Louisville Ballet family,” he remarks. “This company is exactly what I imagined when I thought of my future in artistic leadership. I’m excited to continue the Company’s commitment to the tradition of classical ballet whilst exploring new work, new venues and new ways to inspire the community. The more time I spend in Louisville, the more excited I am about contributing to its arts culture. It’s a dream come true.”
