Queensland Ballet’s 2015 season is all about fairytale magic, with a line-up that includes La Sylphide, Peter Pan, The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.

Peter Schaufuss’s La Sylphide will get the ball rolling.  The Danish choreographer’s version of this archetypal Romantic ballet pays tribute to the Bournonville tradition.

Next up is Peter Pan.  Trey McIntyre’s interpretation of JM Barrie’s celebrated children’s book is a mix of dance and theatre, with sword fights, giant puppets and characters who literally fly.

With performances by international guest, English National Ballet principal Alina Cojocaru. Greg Horsman’s The Sleeping Beauty is billed as the company’s “blockbuster ballet” for 2015.  The company will be announcing a male guest in the near future.  This work was premiered by Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2011 and is known for being both lavish and technically challenging.

Appropriately, The Nutcracker by Ben Stevenson will round up the year, finishing its season just before Christmas.

All four ballets will be accompanied by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
