Back in July 2014, Canberra’s youth dance company Quantum Leap performed at the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in Glasgow. It was on this trip that the seeds were sown for an exchange project between YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) and QL2 Dance (Canberra), whereby the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland (NYDCS) would travel to Australia to work with QL2 Dance.

Fast forward to April 2016 and NYDCS are currently in the midst of a two week creative exchange and performance opportunity in Canberra with QL2 Dance. The two companies will work together for five days to create a new contemporary dance work with YDance artistic director Anna Kenrick and QL2 artistic director Ruth Osborne. Both companies will have the chance to meet youth dance groups from across Australia and spend a further three days in the dance studio working and learning together in creative workshops.

The exchange will culminate in the presentation of a triple bill, entitled “10 000 Miles”. The program will see Quantum Leap dancers perform Sara Black’s Act of Contact, NYDCS’s dancers perform Kenrick’s Maelstrom and both companies perform the new work, entitled Landing Patterns.

“!0 000 Miles” will be presented at 5pm, 17 April at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre. Head to http://ql2.org.au/ for more info.
