A few weeks ago we featured Artstart recipient Joshua Pether.  This week we feature another young dancer who has received an Artstart grant from Australia Council, Zachary Lopez.  Artstart grants are designed to assist emerging artists in establishing themselves professionally.

Fresh from completing Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-Professional Year in 2014, QUT graduate Lopez plans to use his Artstart grant to build on the connections he has forged within the contemporary dance sector.  “As an emerging dancer, I recognize the challenges of transitioning into the professional dance industry as choreographers generally prefer to work with more experienced dancers,” remarks Lopez.  “My Artstart year is designed to connect me with key choreographers and experiences that will enhance the likelihood of me receiving future work.”

With the assistance of his Artstart grant, Lopez will work with a variety of companies and artists, including Sydney Dance Company, Strut Dance (WA), Larissa McGowan (SA), Dean Walsh (NSW) and Kristina Chan (NSW).  He will also travel to Europe to attend ImPulsTanz in Vienna, as well as undertake classes and auditions at dance companies in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and Austria.
