Photos from Rio

It’s off to Rio for Phillip Adams, artistic director of Balletlab, and Brazlian/Australian dancer/photographer Gregory Lorenzutti. The pair have been commissioned to create a new work for Brazilian company Companhia de Ballet da Cidade de Niterói. Titled Pacific, the new work will be presented in the Municipal Theatre of Niteroi on 11 November. Adams and Lorenzutti have kindly shared a selection of photographs from the production with Dance Australia.

Pacific presents a two-sided stage investigation assessing the social boundaries that can occur in the stereotyping of cultural exoticism and gender.  In this collaboration, the dancers of the Niteroi City Ballet become the subjects of a Brazilian exoticism transforming in their bodies across a pageantry spilling of choreographic narratives and ceremonies.  Adams is circumnavigating around the spectacle of dance rituals and sees Rio’s Carnival as an entry point for social commentary on connectivity, queerness and acceptance.

Enjoy browsing these beautiful pics! All photographs by Gregory Lorenzutti.
