Choreographer Serena Chalker is no stranger to works created for small audiences. Premiering at Perth’s Fringe World in 2012, Life in Miniature, co-directed and performed by Chalker and Quindell Orton, was performed in a caravan to audiences of five at a time. Chalker’s latest work, every/nowhere, has slightly larger audiences of 10 per show. Audience members enter the solo performance one at a time, at 2 minute intervals, with audio guides directing them through the performance.
Chalker has recently returned from a stint of studying and working in the UK and her experiences of living in London have informed every/nowhere. “I developed this work whilst living away in London.” says Chalker “It is a reflection of the idea that wherever you go in the world, you are always re-evaluating your understanding of place and what it means to be ‘home’. Travel and displacement are universal experiences, and they can really shift your understanding of the world, as the memories you collect start to interrupt your experience of the present.”
After being presented in the UK and Bulgaria, every/nowhere will be performed at Fringe World, Perth, in February.
